Dr. Sylvia Hussey joined the Council in November 2014. Previously, Sylvia spent 12 years at Kamehameha Schools with operating responsibilities and oversight of the admissions, financial aid, scholarship, ancestry verification, community resources, distance learning, education and information technology, human resources and project management functions. She also has audit and accounting and information technology consulting experiences from her earlier career in public accounting, consulting with a number of State of Hawaii departments. Sylvia received her Doctorate of Education in Professional Educational Practice and Master of Education in Private School Leadership from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University–Hawai’i.
Erika Vincent joined the NHEC team in April 2005 as a fiscal officer and is now responsible for managing all administrative operations. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Ethnic Studies from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. While an undergrad at UH-Mānoa, Erika was a research assistant in the UH Haumana Biomedical Research Program where she conducted behavioral studies on native birds and helped eradicate invasive plants in the Hakalau Wildlife Refuge on Hawai’i Island. Her experience in this program sparked Erika’s interests in conservation and ethnobotany.
