GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT-2010 Native Hawaiian Education Program Competition PDF Print E-mail

Aloha mai kakou!

The U.S. Department of Education announced today the availability of grant funds under the Native Hawaiian Education Act and are now soliciting applications.  The deadline set forth in the grant application is April 27, 2010.  The Department has set an absolute priority for novice applicants who have never received a grant under this program, or who have not had a grant for the last five years.  It also establishes a competitive preference priority for the following: 

·     Projects designed to address beginning and reading literacy among students in kindergarten through third grade;

 

·     Projects that are designed to address the needs of at-risk children and youth;

 

·     Projects that are designed to address the needs in fields or disciplines in which Native Hawaiians are underemployed; 

 

·     Projects that are designed to address the use of the Hawaiian language in instruction.

The amount of estimated available funds is $2,895,000.  The estimated range of awards is $250,000- $950,000.  The estimated average size of awards is $413,500.  The estimated number of awards is 7.
